Feedback from my first blog!

I want to thank all my friends for the encouragement and the feedback from my first blog post.
The main criticism I had was that it was too long. People I absolutely agree with you!
I promise not to go on and on. Meanwhile I'm so anxious about the ceremony tomorrow, Can't wait!

Golden Globes

As you may already know, January 17th is The 67th Golden Globes Awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in LA, California. The Golden Globes are the awards that the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) gives to the Movie and TV industry and is unofficially called the pre Oscar ceremony.
Being a big movie and TV buff, the award season has always been very exiting for me. Even in my early years back in Uruguay, watching all of my favorite stars walking on the red carpet looking their best and later crying on stage when they accepted their awards made me feel closer to them.
I'm never happy with the winners, not because I don't think they don't deserve to win, but mostly because I like them all, and even having my favorites I end up feeling sorry for the ones who don't win.
One thing that really bothers me is when a star wins and they show no emotion on stage. If you don't feel it, fake it man, you're an actor! And if you are not an actor, chances are you are either a director or a writer, fake it!
The HFPA's highest honor, the Cecil B. Demille Award for outstanding contribution to entertainment is awarded to individuals who have made a profound impact on the world of entertainment. Previous award winners include Alfred Hitchcock, Lucille Ball, Sidney Poitier, Sophia Loren, Sean Connery, and Barbara Streisand. Last year's winner was Steven Spielberg, and this year the Cecil B. Demille Award is going to be given to one of my favorite directors in the industry, Martin Scorsese. Leonardo De Caprio and Robert De Niro are in charge of presenting him with the honor, which is for sure going to be one of the great moments of the night.
This is going to be the first time the show will aired live in all time zones. I love that idea and I hope the other award shows do the same. I love to watch them live so I can blog while it happens, otherwise they always spoil the winners for me.
A fun curiosity of the GG is that before 1958 the awards were only presented by journalists, but that year three Rat Packers, Dean Martin, Frankie (Sinatra, I just call him Frankie) and Sammy Davis Jr. took over the stage with whisky and cigarettes and since then the awards are presented to stars by other stars and not from journalists.
Ok but lets go to the point: nominations and predictions for the main categories at the 67th Golden Globe Awards.

Best Motion Picture - Drama
Avatar -Well, How can HFPA ignore that after 5 weeks is the number 2 grossing film in history preceded only by another James Cameron film (Titanic) what means that is going to become number one. Good news…There will be Avatar II. It is likely to win, also my pick.
The Hurt Locker - Is a war movie, is about Irak, about a glimpse of what the American troops have to deal with on a daily basis, but beyond that is a beautiful heartful very well made film.
Inglourious Basterds - The best Quentin Tarantino film since "Pulp Fiction", clever, funny, violent. When you think that there's nothing new a movie can bring to the World War II you meet the Basterds.
Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire-Cruel story presented in a very gentle way. Is an very well acted film, both Mo'nique and Gabourey Sidibe are superb.
Up In The Air- If you don't like your job, go and see it, there's always someone that has a worst one. A very original and current film.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
Emily Blunt – The Young Victoria- Love Emily Blunt. A story of queen Victoria I didn't know (I read that is not 100% accurate but who cares, I bought it). Can't wait to see her walking the red carpet with Jim (actually his name is John but I like to call him Jim like his character in "The office") her brand new fiancée.
Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side-I think is going to win and is my pick also, have to be honest just saw the movie trailers (didn't have time to go yet, lots of movies to watch). I think is her time to win, she's double nominated for drama and for comedy, why wouldn't give it to her!
Helen Mirren – The Last Station-She's stunning in this period piece, she's the queen man! and I don't know if you saw her picture in a red bikini, are you kidding me!
Carey Mulligan – An Education-What a beautiful film! If you have the chance go to see it is a clever movie, the story takes place in the 60's. She's terrific!
Gabourey Sidibe – Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire-Perfectly chosen for the part, it is going to be the role of her life, the one movie that she is going to be remembered. A mixture of strength and vulnerability, Ignorance and wisdom, the cruelty that she is surrounded and her strategy to escape from it.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama

Jeff Bridges – Crazy Heart
George Clooney – Up In The Air-I think he's going to bring it home, everybody loves George, he is really good in the part but he plays George.
Colin Firth – A Single Man
Morgan Freeman – Invictus
Tobey Maguire – Brothers- This is my pick, he should get it. Hello…Spiderman went to the war and then got back to find out that Anne Boleyn is in love with his brother. Can't get better than that!

Best Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical
(500) Days Of Summer-I have to be honest about it, I didn't see it.
The Hangover-Hilarious, no stop fun, it has all the ingredients and is an extremely successful film, just sit relax and have fun.
It's Complicated-Meryl, Meryl, Meryl. What can I say? I'm a huge fan.
Julie & Julia-Mery, Meryl, Meryl. Is my favorite one and I think is the one that is taking it, has all the ingredients literally and is about a lady writing a web blog…Where are you reading this? Ok one more time Meryl, Meryl Meryl Love her!

Ok Hear me out, I can't be neutral here. Broken Embraces is the last Pedro Almodovar film. There is no film director in th world that I admire more than Pedro, as simply as that. I truly think he is a genius. I hope he wins even if I think that "broken" is not the best Almodovar ever and he has some references (as he always do) to his early works (There is a clear reference in the film to "Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown")that you have to know to understand I can't stop my little hart to beat for him when I have one of his films nominated.
